Want seclusion and serenity? Come nestle under the whispering pines at Big Pine Campground where we strive to make every guest a return guest.
We are a family-run campground a couple of miles west of Custer, tucked back off the highway on our own road. Sites sit well apart under tall ponderosa pines, with a picnic table and fire pit at each one — and the national forest right behind you.
Full hookups for the big rigs, water-and-electric sites, roomy primitive tent sites, two camper cabins and a restored retro trailer. Whatever you are travelling in, there is a spot for it here.

Not bringing a camper?
Sleep in a cabin or the retro trailer
Two camper cabins sit under the pines for nights you would rather not pitch anything — simple, wood-built and a short walk from the bath house.
Or take the Retro Trailer: a restored vintage camper on its own little fenced yard, sleeping three, with a kitchen, a dinette and its own bathroom. There is a two night minimum, and it books up early.

Crazy Horse is barely ten minutes up the highway. Jewel Cave, Custer State Park and the Needles are all an easy morning.

Wildlife, caves, granite and open road
Custer State Park’s Wildlife Loop runs eighteen miles through a herd of roughly 1,400 free-roaming bison. The Needles Highway threads three one-lane tunnels through granite spires. Jewel Cave has over 220 miles of mapped passages beneath it.
And when you want a grocery store, a restaurant or a tank of fuel, downtown Custer is five minutes away.

Good to know
Check-in is from 1:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Arriving after 6 PM Mountain Time? Give us a call so we can make arrangements for a late arrival — there is no after hours check in without a reservation.
Quiet time runs 10 PM – 8 AM, though we ask you to be respectful of your fellow campers all the time. Pets are welcome on a leash around the campground, but not in the cabins or the Retro Trailer.
No television service is provided. Satellite & WiFi TV is possible in some campsites.
